SGO Medical Joins WHO Global Health Equipment Initiative
Commitment to Global Health Equity
SGO Medical has joined the World Health Organization's Global Health Equipment Initiative (GHEI) as a founding industry member. This landmark program aims to improve access to essential medical devices in low- and middle-income countries, where millions of people lack access to basic surgical and diagnostic capabilities.
Our Commitments
As part of our GHEI membership, SGO Medical has made the following commitments:
- Affordable Device Program: Development of a cost-optimized product line of essential surgical instruments and diagnostic devices specifically designed for resource-limited settings, priced at 40-60% below standard commercial pricing
- Training Initiative: Provision of surgical instrument training programs for 500 healthcare workers in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia over the next three years
- Technology Transfer: Partnership with local manufacturers in Kenya and Vietnam to establish regional production capabilities for basic medical devices
- Donation Program: Annual donation of 10,000 units of surgical consumables to WHO-designated healthcare facilities in underserved regions
Why This Matters
According to the WHO, 5 billion people worldwide lack access to safe, affordable surgical and anesthesia care. In sub-Saharan Africa, only 1 in 5 hospitals has basic surgical capability. By making our technology more accessible and investing in local healthcare infrastructure, we aim to contribute meaningfully to closing this critical healthcare gap.
Our CEO, Mr. Chen Jianhua, commented: "Access to quality medical devices should not be determined by geography or economics. This initiative aligns with our core belief that innovation in healthcare must serve all of humanity, not just affluent markets."
